Kyle McBride is set for his biggest challenge yet as he prepares to compete in the prestigious FIA European Rally Championship as a wildcard entry at Rali Ceredigion this weekend.
The Aberystwyth-based rally, held in Wales, marks the UK's first major international rally in five years.
The Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy driver will go head-to-head with some of Europe's most promising drivers in the ERC Rally4 class.
This exciting opportunity comes as a wildcard entry offered to one Irish driver on the event.
“It is a dream come true to be able to compete at a European event and a huge thanks to the European Rally Championship for this nomination,” said the Donegal-based driver. “I am really looking forward to being able to compete at European level and see how we go against the regular ERC drivers.
The wildcard entry positions McBride near the front of the field, granting him valuable exposure through the extensive live coverage provided by Rally.TV, the official broadcaster of the FIA European Rally Championship.
He will be driving an Opel Corsa Rally4 for the first time , a departure from his usual Peugeot 208 Rally4.
“We have a new car this weekend. We are driving an Opel Corsa. It is going to be really interesting to see how the Corsa goes,” added McBride who is co-driven by Sligo man Darragh Mullen.
“It going to take a little bit of time just to adapt to the Corsa as it is slightly different to the Peugeot.”
While Rali Ceredigion is a double-header round for both the Probite British Rally Championship and the ERC, McBride will be prioritising points in the Stellantis Motorsport Rally Cup.
