Spain to host penultimate round of FIA Rally Star programme this weekend

The FIA Rally Star programme reaches the business end of the season in Spain this weekend.

The RACC Rally de Catalunya takes place this weekend on roads previously used in the Salou-based round of the former Spanish round of the World Rally Championship.

All six FIA Rally Star drivers and their co-drivers will be in Spain for the fifth of six rounds.

They continue the experience they are taking on board during the FIA Rally Star Training Season – the top four drivers and co-drivers will go forward to the Junior WRC next season.

The final event is the Lausitz Rallye in Germany from November 9 to 1 and soon after the four drivers and co-drivers will know their fate for next season.

Among them is Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy co-driver Ronan Comerford.

“Obviously we are assessed as a crew and individually, so it is just about working hard at the minute and doing the right things. We will know soon after Germany,” said the County Armagh man.

Meanwhile, in Portugal, Fermanagh co-driver Brian Hoy guided Kris Meeke to victory on the Rallye Vidreiro – the final round of the Portuguese Rally Championship.

The Hyundai Portugal-supported crew finished their Portuguese Rally Championship campaign with a fourth victory in the competition in their Hyundai i20 N Rally2.
